Criterion relating to trustworthiness
Question:
Is there a criterion relating to Thiqqah (trustworthy)?
And is it a condition for a person to be declared trustworthy with all of Ahlussunnah?
And is the statement of someone saying “So-and-so is not trustworthy with me”, have any effect?
Benefit us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
The Thiqqah is the Al-‘Adl (the upright) Ad-Dhābit (proficient preserver).
And it suffices for a person to be declared Thiqqah by an individual from the people qualified in this affair.
As for stipulating a consensus in its regard is a Khalafi way, which leads to rendering false al-Jarh wat Ta’dīl.
If an individual from those qualified in this affair declares a person Thiqqah, and after this point someone qualified comes and disparages him, he is requested to explain his disparagement before it’s accepted.
