Men applying Henna on their hands and feet

Question:

O Shaykh of ours, may Allah preserve you, what’s the ruling of putting Henna on the hands and feet for men?

Answer:

If it was for medication, then it’s permissible.

And if it was for beautification, then it’s impermissible due to beautification by way of henna being specific to women, and it’s not permissible for men to beautify themselves with the beautification of the women.

Due to what has come in Al-Bukhari on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he said:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ cursed the men that resemble themselves to women, and the women that resemble themselves with men.”

This hadīth rules upon this action to be from the major sins, and this was declared as such by the ‘Allāmah Ibn ‘Utheymīn.
