Living in the Lands of Disbelief and Entering One’s Children into their Free Mixing Schools

Question:

This is a question from Ghana. We live in the land of the disbelievers where the disbelievers do not spare any opportunity to turn us and especially our children away from the mannerisms and principles of our religion.

They make it mandatory upon them to change their Islamic mode of dress, intermingle with the opposite genders in class which has lead to the severe decline of their Islamic moral character and widespread calamity upon their Islamic creed and practices.

Inspite of all of this, some who portray themselves as Islamic teachers in our land argue that;

  1. It is a case of necessity for the children to attend these schools since we are not in the land of Islaam,
  2. It is obligatory upon them to learn their handy work to enable them to be responsible to their family in the future without resorting to depending upon the people, so it’s lesser of the two evils.

What is your advice for the parents specifically and the Muslims generally regarding this matter? We ask Allaah for success for us and you.

Answer:

Living in the lands of the disbelievers is a major offense upon the Muslims and mixing with them is an even worse mistake, especially upon the children, those young in age from the males and the females. They are mixing with the disbelievers and those who’s religion is in question. As they don’t possess the ability to distinguish between people of faith (Emaan). And this is the reason evil and indecency prevail. So it is obligatory upon those Muslims to fear Allah. And not to mix with the disbelievers and not to enter their children into these free mixing schools. Because this will corrupt the beliefs and manners of the children. Likewise, wasting their religion and placing them into filth and immorality while distancing them from morality and righteousness.

So what is required is hating the disbelievers and distancing oneself from them. Allah the Most-High says in His Noble book:

{يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا عَدُوِّي وَعَدُوَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاء}

That which translates to:

“O you who have believed, do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies” [Al-Mumtahanah:1]

And He the Most-Lofty says:

{يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ لاَ تَتَّخِذُواْ آبَاءكُمْ وَإِخْوَانَكُمْ أَوْلِيَاء إَنِ اسْتَحَبُّواْ الْكُفْرَ عَلَى الإِيمَانِ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ}

That which translates to:

“O you who have believed, do not take your fathers or your brothers as allies if they have preferred disbelief over belief. And whoever does so among you – then it is those who are the wrongdoers.” [Taubah:23]

And when He the Most-Wise said:

{يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ لاَ تَتَّخِذُواْ الْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى أَوْلِيَاء بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاء بَعْضٍ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ}

That which translates to:

“O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you – then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.” [Maidah:51]

The disbelievers are eager to hinder the Muslims from their religion.

As Allah the Most-High says:

{وَدُّواْ لَوْ تَكْفُرُونَ كَمَا كَفَرُواْ فَتَكُونُونَ سَوَاء}

That which translates to:

“They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike.” [Nisa:89]

And His statement:

{وَدَّ كَثِيرٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَوْ يَرُدُّونَكُم مِّن بَعْدِ إِيمَانِكُمْ كُفَّاراً حَسَداً}

That which translates to:

“Many of the People of the Scripture wish they could turn you back to disbelief after you have believed, out of envy from themselves.” [Baqarah:109]

I warn you all from the disbelievers.

As Allah the Most-High says:

{وَلاَ تَرْكَنُواْ إِلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ فَتَمَسَّكُمُ النَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاء ثُمَّ لاَ تُنصَرُونَ}

That which translates to:

“And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest you be touched by the Fire, and you would not have other than Allah any protectors; then you would not be helped.” [Hud:113]

So the one that is able to leave these lands should do so as to save his religion, honor and children.

As for the statement of those that are putting themselves forward with ordering the good and forbidding the evil in this affair by saying, you should place your children in these free mixing schools, these people are frauds and imposters, if they understood the matter. If not, then they are ignorant. Because they have been deprived of knowledge. So they say enter them so that they may learn, how else will they be able to work and provide for their families in the future without having to beg the people?? And this is the lesser of two evils. How is this the lesser of two evils when they are living with disbelief!? How is it the lesser of two evils when they are living amongst evil and indecency!? How is it the lesser of two evils when they are living amongst the hatred of the disbelievers. And they are mixing with them night and day, in public and in private. I swear by Allah if one was to be poor and die from poverty and starvation it would be better that living and working and exposing yourselves to the mannerisms of these disbelievers.

I warn you all from these ideologies that have come to harm the Muslims. As the Prophet said: “The example of a good and bad companion is like that of the one that sells perfumes and the blacksmith. The one that sells perfumes will either give you a gift, or you will buy some perfumes from him or at the very least you will smell good dents. As for the blacksmith, either he will burn your clothes or you will smell a foul odor from him.” Hadith Abu Musa in Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim. Likewise the Prophet said: “A man is upon the way of his companions so look to who you take as a companion.” Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi compiled this hadith from Abu Hurayrah with a good chain of narrators.

So for these reasons it is a must that the Muslims must take every precaution.

Oh my brothers, we are in the lands of Islam and we are fearful for the well-being of our children. Are they hanging around corrupt children? Kids that my be homosexual, listening to music, doing drugs, smoking, watching television, wearing pants, mixing with the opposite sex and other than these things. So what about living in the lands of the disbelievers.!! You are mixing disbelief and evil sins without any consequences or any importance to who they are mixing with or who they are speaking to. This is pure evil and corruption.

So it is obligatory upon every father and mother to fear Allah in regards to their children in these lands.

And Allah knows best.
