What is the Ruling Entering Places with Surveillance Camera ?
Answered by our Shaykh, the ‘Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abu ‘Abdirrahmān Yahya bin ‘Ali Al-Hajūri – may Allāh preserve him – on the 25th, Dhūl-Hijjah, 1441H
Question:
Entering the shopping stores which have cameras, is it overlooked, with the fact that there is barely a building or market place or management board room or hospital except that they are present in it?
Answer:
“Fear Allāh as much as you can.” [At-Taghābun, 16]
This is a trial, if he is in need of something or he entered for treatment, where will the people go? He goes to their hospitals which has this calamity in it, he goes to the market stores that he’s is in need of and what is from their necessity and whoever is self sufficient from the likes of these and remains then in this is good, and whoever is in need of going there is nothing upon him, it (the sin) is upon the one who causes the people to fall into that.
“Fear Allah as much as you can.” [At-Taghābun, 16]
Whoever disliked (to go) indeed has excelled and whoever rebuked (while going) has been kept safe but the one who is pleased and adheres.
This type of expansion was not necessary with these cameras, for verily people before had businesses and places of gathering and with them what is with the people now and their affairs were maintained upon khair and barakah, and there didn’t used to occur disorder, and every time sins occur, and when sins increase the people increased in humuliation, trials happen and they are trialed in their wealth and families and religion according to the level of distance from their Lord.
We advise with the abandoning of these cameras and the withdrawal of them, and that if a person were to exert his efforts in placing a number of guards at the door and security and what is the likes of this he would be safe from having to do the likes of this.
Allāhulmusta’ān
Verily those who make the likes of these pictures will be punished.
“Give life to that which you have created.”
“A neck will come out of the fire, it has a tongue with which it speaks and two eyes with which it sees, it will say I have been entrusted with every haughty tyrant and those who make partners with Allāh, and the picture makers.”
“The most severely punished on the Day of Judgement are the picture makers.”
This is a severe punishment it is not allowed to be negligent about it whether it is places of trading or restaurants or masājids, what is the sin of the masjid that you have to put a camera at the door, even houses they put cameras at all angles from here and from there, even the streets in some countries are filled with cameras, if a person spat in the street they will say this is an offense, they will record this offense for merely spitting or throwing litter in the street, the camera catches him and upon you is an offense and it will come to his place of residence and the likes of this, uneeded expansion concerning this and Allāhulmusta’ān.
We are in safety as long as we are in obedience to Allāh and far from sins we are in good, And Allāh defends according to the level of distance from sins and remaining steadfast upon the obedience of Allāh;
“Verily Allāh defends those who believe.” [Al-Hajj, 38]
“And (as for) those who have earned evil, the punishment of an evil is the like of it, and abasement shall come up upon them.” [Yunus, 27]
We fear for ourselves by Allah, the Muslims have plunged into humiliation we don’t need more may Allah be gentle, by Allah people are in need of pardoning from the Lord of the worlds, or else we see that humiliation has fallen upon the Muslims and Allah’s refuge is sought.
This is only because of opposition or else Allāh gives the believers honour;
“But honor belongs to Allah and His Messengers and the believers.” [Al-Mu’minūn, 8]
Except when they became froth what you see occurred.
