Answered by Shaykh Abu Hamza Hassan bin Muhammed Ba Shu’ayb – may Allah preserve him –
??Question:
A woman applied henna on her head, then she made Wudhu and prayed. The question is:
Does the henna obstruct the path of water?
And what’s the ruling regarding her wudhu and prayer?
??Answer:
Yes it obstructs, however it’s still permissible to wipe upon it.
Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, May Allah have mercy on him, said:
“And even if the head has been coated with henna, or tree sap or gum, or honey, or something of its like, then wiping is still permissible; as it’s established that the Prophet ﷺ was in his Ihrām while having Talbeed (bringing the hair together and coating it using henna or honey or tree sap or gum).
Therefore anything else from what coats which is placed upon the head, then it follows it (in ruling), likewise this also indicates that purification in of the head has something of ease”.
