Parents reading invocations before sleep on behalf of children

Question 364:

Is it legislated for the mother or father to recite and rub their little child with the invocations that are said at the time of sleep?

Answer :

Shaykh said that it doesn’t come in Sunnah to recite the invocations which are read before sleep and rub on children. So,  it is better to suffice with the known dua to keep the children under protection.

[Ibn ‘Abbas radhiallahu anhu narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain saying:

أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّةِ ، مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لاَمَّةٍ.

“U’idhukumã bikalimatillahit-tammati, min kulli shaitãnin wa hãmmatin, wa minkulli ‘ainin lãmmah”
(I seek refuge for the two of you in the Perfect Words of Allah, from every devil and every poisonous pest, and from every evil harmful eye).”

And he would say: “It is with this that Ibrahim would seek refuge for Ishaq and Isma’eel [peace be upon them].”
(Tirmidhi – 2060, Shaykh Al Albani declared it as Saheeh) – Translator]

And if they do that to teach how to read the invocations before sleep and rub then there is no problem.
