The dua of finishing the Qur’an has in it many legislative oppositions to the Sunnah
Benefit:
The newly invented du’aa of finishing the Qur’aan has no evidence for it from the Prophet ﷺ nor from the action of the Salaf may Allaah be pleased with them.
The solution concerning that is that you wait and leave the first ten in which they complete the Qur’aan in then you remain and pray with them the last ten and witr; this is the escape.
In it are numerous oppositions to the proofs:
Elongating in the du’aa
Singing in the du’aa
Rhyming in du’aa (1)
Overburdening oneself in du’aa
Also seeking that when finishing the Qur’aan
Du’aa has in it the best of worship; and from the means of ones du’aa not being accepted is legislative oppositions in it, He said:
(ٱدْعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ تَضَرُّعًا وَخُفْيَةًۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ)
“Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.” (2) [Al-A’raaf: 55]
And the statement of Sa’d may Allaah be pleased with him, “Beware of transgressing in du’aa.”
End of speech (3)
(1) Bukhaari reported from Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him with his statement: ”Pay attention to rhyming in du’aa and avoid it, for indeed I became accustomed with the Prophet ﷺ and his companions not doing except the avoiding of that rhyming”
And Bukhaari may a chapter for this Hadeeth with the title: [Chapter of what is disliked of rhyming in du’aa]
(2) Ibn Juraij in the Tafseer of His statement
{ٱدْعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ تَضَرُّعًا وَخُفْيَةًۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ}
“Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.” [Al-A’raaf: 55]
“From transgression: is raising ones voice and shouting in du’aa, and they used to be ordered with humility and submissiveness” [Tafseer Al-Qurtubi (8/207)]
(3) And from Ibn Sa’d bin Abi Waqqaas may Allaah be pleased with him that he said: “My father heard me saying “O Allaah verily I ask you for Jannah and it’s pleasures, and it’s delights, and this and that, and I seek refuge with you from the Fire, and its shackles, and chains, and this and that,” so he said: “O my son, indeed I heard the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ saying:
“There will be a people who trangress in du’aa, so beware of being from them, verily if you are granted Jannah you are granted it and whatever is in it of good, and if you are granted refuge from the Fire, you are granted refuge from it and whatever is in it of evil.” [Reported by Ahmed (1488) and Abu Daawud (1480) and Albaani declared it to be authentic]
And his come in the Fatwa of the Permanent Standing Committee for Fataawa, the second group (5/396): “Upon the Imaams of the Masaajid – may Allaah grant them success – striving to know the Sunnah and zealousness in acting upon it in all affairs, for the people seek guidance through them and take from them, so beware, beware from opposing the Sunnah in extremism or negligence, and from that is the du’aa in Qunoot of Al-Witr and An-Nawaazil: So what is legislated is du’aa with all comprehensive words and du’aas which have come in a state of tranquility and composure and not elongating and exaggeration and burdening the Muslims.”
