When is an Hadith classified as ‘Al-Mursal’?
Benefit:
The Mursal Hadith
(6) Al-Mursal
Highlight to the falling of the mentioning of a companion in the chain of narration, so the Taabi’ee says: The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said. And the five previously mentioned types (Saheeh, Hasan, Dha’eef, Mawdhoo’, Matrooh) fall into Mursal. So from the Saheeh Mursal
- Mursal Sa’eed bin Al-Musayyib.
And
- Mursal Masrooq.
And
- Mursal As-Sanaabijee.
And
- Mursal Qais bin Abee Haazim. And the likes of that.
For verily the Mursal, if its authentic to a major Taabi’ee, then it’s a proof amongst a group of the Fuqahaa. So if there’s a weak narrator amongst the narrators to the likes of Ibn Musayyib, the Hadith is weak from the angle of that man. And if it’s an abandoned person or fallen person, the Hadith is weak and casted aside.
And there is found Mawdhoo’aat (Fabricated Hadiths) in Maraaseel (Mursal Hadiths). Yes, even if the chain is authentic to a Taabi’ee of middle rank, like the Maraaseel of Mujaahid, and Ibraaheem, and Ash-Sha’bee. For they are Mursal Jayyid, Laa Ba’s Bih (graded Hasan), and people accepted them and others rejected them.
And from the weakest of Maraaseel with them: Are the Maraaseel of Al-Hasan (Al-Basri). And weaker than that: The Maraaseel of Az-Zuhree, and Qataadah, and Humaid At-Taweel, from the minor Taabi’een.
And the majority of the Muhaqqiqoon consider the Maraaseel of these ones to be Mu’dhalaat and Munqati’aat (disconnected Hadiths), for indeed the majority of narrations of these ones are via major Taabi’ee’s from a Sahaabee. So the strongest guess with this Mursal is that two people were dropped from the chain.
