A person who says hijab is from habits of Pagan Arab and have other deviations
Question:
A person claims that hijaab (the face veil of Muslim women) is not a part of Islam, rather its from the traditions of pagan Arab, celebrating Christmas is appreciable, and there is no harm in igniting fire in the opening of functions as the disbelievers do. He also boasts that he doesn’t fear the scholars who always call for a return to the book of Allah and the sunnah of his messenger sallallahu alaihi wa sallam in every matter. Is this fellow considered as a disbeliever and how should we deal with him?
Answer:
As for the issue of hijab, Allah has sent verses in Quran regarding that. The messenger sallallahu alaihi wasallam has also mentioned that.
Allah says “let them put on their veils over their breasts”
Allah says ” O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.”
So if this person is ignorant he should seek knowledge. If he is not an ignorant one we advise him to repent to Allah. He is refusing something that Allah has legislated obviously.
As for celebrating Christmas it is prohibited. The scholars may Allah have mercy on them – have authored books in this respect. Shaykhul Islam Ibnu taymiyyah has iqtida-u-siratil mustaqeem and imam dhahabi has another book.
In short, the people of knowledge have unanimously agreed upon the forbiddance of celebrating the ceremonies of disbelievers as the messenger of Allah has said “whoever imitates a nation, he belongs to them!”
Also, Allah says: ” You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those – He
has decreed within their hearts faith and supported them with spirit from Him. And We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him – those are the party of Allah . Unquestionably, the party of Allah – they are the successful”
Allah says “oh you who believe! Don’t take my enemies and your enemies as your friends” Allah says “the believers should not take disbelievers as their partners besides the believes. Whoever does that has nothing with Allah ”
This person has committed a grave sin by pronouncing these statements which requires to be repented from to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
As for igniting the fire in the opening of functions, its either an act worship as the fire worshippers do. Its falsehood, as the fire is creation from the many creations of Allah.
Allah says ” And have you seen the fire that you ignite? Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?”
Or it may be simply imitating the kuffar. Both of these of impermissible.
If this person says that he doesn’t fear the scholars who call people to return all the affairs to the book and the sunnah then he is a person of desires.
Allah says, “But if they do not respond to you – then know that they only follow their [own] desires. Who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allah ? Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.”
The one who doesn’t respond to the call of the messenger is only following his desires. The scholars are not calling to themselves. Rather, they are calling to the book and the sunnah. So, its clear that this person is a deviating one. May Allah guide us and him and draw us and him to the truth.
He should advised and clarified. Thus the proof has to be established upon him. If he still persists upon these statements, then it shows the disbelief! We ask Allah for safety and protection.
As for the dealing with him, it should be with advice and clarification. If he doesn’t retract, he should be boycotted and warned from.
