Can a menstruating woman touch the mushaf?

Question:

Is it permissible for a menstruating woman to read the Qurān from the mushaf (a written copy of the Qurān)?

Answer:

This is (from) the disputed matters. The stance of the majority of the scholars is prohibition; that a menstruating woman cannot hold the mushaf.

A group of other scholars adopted the stance of permissibility. They said this because The Prophet ﷺ said to ‘Āisha:

“نَاوِلِينِي الْخُمْرَةَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ”

Pass me the mat from the masjid

قَالَت: إِنِّي حَائِضٌ

She said: “I am certainly menstruating.”

“قَالَ : إِنَّ حَيْضَكِ لَيْسَ بِيَدِكِ”

He said, “Indeed, your menstruation is not on your hands.” [1].

Thus, this shows the permissibility of a menstruating womam taking the mushaf.

However, in order to avoid the difference of opinion; were she to wear gloves she will have touched the mushaf through a barrier – and this is permissible.

Similarly, if she were to recite from a phone, a phone that contains a mushaf, for example; this is also permissible.
