Requesting public donations

Question :

“A brother has been afflicted with a severe illness requiring large sums of money for treatment. Is it permissible for me to ask Muslims for donations on sites specialised for donations on the internet? “

Answer :

“This is to be left. It is to be left. If a person is afflicted with an illness, they should ask Allah for well-being and seek help from Allah the mighty and majestic, and if they know good from someone then they ask them without spreading it on WhatsApp.

This exists among some of the Ghurabaa (foreigners) certain sites, they collect therein, they collect perhaps even from non-Muslims, in certain sites of the Ghurabaa, if such circumstances arise so-and-so spreads it on this site and they then seek collections for them. This is to be left. Whoever refrains (from asking), Allah will make them self-sufficient, and whoever abstains (from asking), Allah will provide for them. No one has been given a gift greater or more expansive than patience. Perhaps a single supplication to Allah the mighty and majestic might cure your sick, and it’s better for you than asking people, and to humiliate yourself, perhaps you might end up falling into lying. You might fall into lying. We ask Allah for well-being. Entering into this subject matter, little little are those that remain firm, and little are those that are truthful”
