What has come concerning (being under) the protection of Allaah and the protection of His Prophet
Benefit:
From the commentary on the Book of Tawheed by Shaykhul-Islaam Muhammad bin Abdil-Wahhaab may Allaah have mercy on him,140-144th Lesson.
Chapter: What has come concerning (being under) the protection of Allaah and the protection of His Prophet.
And His statement:
“And fulfill the Covenant of Allah (Bai’a: pledge for Islam) when you have covenanted, and break not the oaths after you have confirmed them, and indeed you have appointed Allah your surety. Verily! Allah knows what you do.” [Nahl: 91]
And on the authority of Buraidah, he said: “The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ if he appointed a leader over an army or battalion, he advised him with the fear of Allaah and advised those with him from the Muslims with good. So he said: “Fight in the Name of Allaah, in the cause of Allaah, fight those who disbelieve in Allaah, and don’t kill the small children.
And when you meet your enemy from the Mushriks, then call them to three things; so whichever one they respond to then accept it from them and refrain from them. Then call them to Islaam, so if they answer your call then accept it from them. Then call them to migrating from their homes to the homes of the Muhaajireen, and he informed them that if they do that, then they are due the rights of that of the Muhaajireen and upon them is the rights that are upon the Muhaajireen. But if they refuse to migrate from it, then inform them that they will be like the Bedouins of the Muslims, the ruling of Allaah falls upon them, and they have no share of the war booty and the spoils of war except if they fight alongside the Muslims. So if they refuse then ask them for the Jizyah. So if they answer your call then accept it from them and refrain from them. But if they refuse then seek aid in Allaah and fight them.
And if you besiege the people of the forts and they want from you to grant them (your word of) the protection of Allaah and the protection of His Prophet, don’t grant them (your word of) the protection of Allaah and the protection of His Prophet, but rather grant them (the word of) your protection and the protection of your companions. For indeed for you to not fulfil your word of protection and the word of protection of your companions is lighter than to not fulfil the word of protection of Allaah and the word of protection of His Prophet. And if you besiege the people of the forts and they want you to descend them upon the ruling of Allaah, don’t descend them, but rather descend them upon your ruling, for indeed you don’t know whether you will coincide with the ruling of Allaah concerning them or not.”
