Chapter: Respecting the Names of Allaah and changing ones name due to that
From Abi Shuraih, that his people used to call him Abil-Hakm, so the Prophet ﷺ called for him and said: ‘Verily Allaah is Al-Hakm (The Judge), and to Him belongs the Hukm (decision making), so why are you called Abal-Hakm? So he said: “Indeed my people, if they differ, they come to me, so I judge between them, and both parties become pleased.” So he said: “How good is this, so do you have any children? He said: “I have Shuraih, and Muslim, and Abdullaah,” he said: “So who is the eldest of them?” I said: “Shuraih,” he said: “Then you are Abu Shuraih.” [Reported by Abu Daawud and others]
In it are Masaa’il (topics):
The First: Respecting the Names of Allaah and His Attributes, even if he didn’t intend its meaning.
The Second: Changing the name due to that.
