Loving and Hating for the sake of Allah
Benefit:
Chapter: His statement:
“And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah” [Al-Baqarah, 165]
And His statement:
“Say, “If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allaah and His Messenger and Jihaad [i.e., striving] in His cause, then wait until Allaah executes His command.” [Tawbah, 24]
And from Anas that the Prophet ﷺ said: “None of you (truly) believes until I become more to him than his children and his parents and all people.” [Reported by Bukhaari and Muslim].
And with both of them have from he said: The Messenger of Allaah said ﷺ:
“Three (things) whoever has them has found with them the sweetness of Eemaan: For Allaah and His Messenger to be more beloved to him than anything else, and to love a person only for the sake of Allaah, and to dislike to return to Kufr after Allaah has saved him from it just like he dislikes to be thrown in the Fire.”
And in a narration:
“None will find the sweetness of Eemaan…. until the End.
And from Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him:
“Whoever loves for the sake of Allaah, and hates for the sake of Allaah, and associates for the sake of Allaah, and disassociates for the sake of Allaah, then indeed he will attain the guardianship of Allaah by doing that, and a slave will not find the taste of Eemaan, even if his praying and fasting is plenty, until he is like that; and the majority of the brotherhood of the people has become upon affairs of Dunyaa, and that doesn’t benefit its people anything.” [Reported by Ibn Jareer]
And Ibn ‘Abbaas said concerning the statement of Allaah:
“and cut off from them are the ties [of relationship]” [Al-Baqarah, 166]
He said: “Affection.”
