Ruling on whoever seeks blessing in trees or stones and their likes

Benefit:

Chapter: Whoever seeks blessing in trees or stones and their likes, and the statement of Allaah:

(أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرى)

“Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-‘Uzza (two idols aqof the pagan Arabs). And Manaat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third?” [An-Najm: 19-20]

And from Abi Waaqid Al-Laithi, he said: “We left with the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ to Hunain and we had recently left Kufr, and the Mushrikeen had a Sidrah tree they used to gather around and hang their swords on it called Dhaat Anwaat. So we passed by a Sidrah; So we said: “O Messenger of Allaah ﷺ, make for us a Dhaat Anwaat just like they have a Dhaat Anwaat”, so the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: “Allaahu Akbar, verily it is the Sanan. You said by the One whose hand my soul belies as the Children of Israa’eel said to Musaa:

(ٱجْعَل لَّنَآ إِلَٰهًا كَمَا لَهُمْ ءَالِهَةٌۚ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ)

“Make for us an ilahan (a god) as they have aliha (gods).” He said: “Verily, you are a people who know not (the Majesty and Greatness of Allah and what is obligatory upon you, i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone, the One and the Only God of all that exists).” [Al-A’raf:138]

“You will surely carry out the Sanan (ways) of those before you.” [Reported by At-Tirmidhi and he authenticated it]

In it are Masaa’il (topics):

The First: The explanation of the verse of An-Najm.

The Second: Knowing the picture of the affair they requested.

The Third: It being that they didn’t do it.

The Fourth: It being that they intended getting closer to Allaah by that due to their thinking that He likes it.

The Fifth: That if they were ignorant of this, then other than them take more precedence with ignorance.

The Sixth: That they have from good deeds and promising of forgiveness what other than them don’t have.

The Seventh: That the Prophet ﷺ didn’t give them and excuse in the matter, he responded to them with his statement: “Allaahu Akbar, verily it is the Sanan. “You will surely carry out the Sanan (ways) of those before you.”

So he magnified the affair with these three.

The Eighth: The great affair. And it is the intended: That he informed them that their request is like the request of Bani Israa’eel when they said to Musaa:

(ٱجْعَل لَّنَآ إِلَٰهًا)

“Make for us an ilahan (a god).”

The Nineth: That negating this is from the meaning of ‘Laa ilaaha illaa Allaah’ with its precision and obscurity to those ones.

The Tenth: That he swore by Allaah upon giving a verdict, and he doesn’t swear except due to a benefit.

The Eleventh: That Shirk has Major and Minor, because they didn’t apostate due to this.

The Twelfth: Their statement: “And we had recently left Kufr.” In it is that other than them were not ignorant of that.

The Thirteenth: Making Takbeer at amazement, in opposition to those who dislike it.

The Fourteenth: Means of prevention.

The Fifthteenth: The prohibition of resembling the people of Jaahiliyyah.

The Sixteenth: Anger whilst teaching.

The Seventeenth: The wholesome principle due to his statement: “Verily it is the Sanan.”

The Eighteenth: That this is a sign from the signs of Prophethood that it occurred as he informed.

The Nineteenth: That what Allaah blamed the Jews and Christians for in the Qur’aan is for us.

The Twentieth: That it is affirmed with them that acts of worship are built upon commandment, so there became in it a bringing attention to the Masaa’il of the grave. As for “Who is your Lord?” then it’s clear, and as for “Who is your Prophet?” then from his informing of the unseen affairs. And as for “What is your religion?” then from their statement: “Make for us” till the end.

The Twenty-First: That the Sunnah of the people of the Book is dispraised like the Sunnah of the Mushrikeen.

The Twenty-Second: That the one moving from falsehood which his heart is accustomed to is not safe from his heart having remnants of those customs, due to their statement: “And we had recently left Kufr.”
