Fasting for Pregnant women

Question:

Which is better for a pregnant woman, fasting with struggle and not praying the voluntary, or breaking the fast with praying the voluntary along with Salāh and reciting the Qurān?

Answer:

If she fears miscarriage for her embryo then she breaks her fast, and it’s not allowed for her to expose it to loss. Then she makes up for it.

(وَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَر)َۗ

“And whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fasts) must be made up] from other days.” [Al-Baqarah, 185]

And this (scenario) is joined with sickness and excuse.

And the Hadith fasting has been lifted for the pregnant and breastfeeder, i.e. lifted due to an excuse and not with the meaning that there is nothing upon her, no making up.

For verily fasting Ramadhan is an obligation from the obligations of Allah, pillar from the pillars of Islam, it doesn’t fall except due to an excuse. Incapability, and whoever has capability in a circumstance then he is capable, and verily the excuse is for the one who is incapable continuously.

So this one if he wills he feeds (one poor person a day), or if he wills he leaves it (feeding). As for feeding then the majority are upon this opinion and Anas may Allah be pleased with him did it, and as for leaving it, it’s because he’s incapable of that (fasting) and there is no evidence to obligate upon him feeding.
