Replying to the Salaams During the Jummah Khutbah

Question:

If a person gives me the greetings during the Jummah khutbah what is the best way to respond, with a gesture or not replying at all?

Answer:

As for replying with a gesture then this would be resembling the people of the Book as they response with hand gestures without a greeting. So do not responde at all, not even with a gesture so as to teach the one that gave the greeting during the khutbah that this is not permissibile and that he is placing a burden upon the people. Opposed to if you were to return a gesture he would understand that (giving the greeting during the khutbah) is permissible. So you don’t not respond at all, not even with a gesture. But if you were to respond with a gesture telling him to be quite then yes. Because this would be from ordering the good and forbidding the evil.

Allah knows best.
