Making Tasbeeh Using the Left Hand?
Question:
What is the ruling on making tasbeeh using the left hand?
Answer:
The matter regarding this (making tasbeeh using the left hand) is broad, and the hadeeth which says the Prophet ﷺ used to make tasbeeh with his right hand¹, the addition of yameen (right hand) has to be looked into. I remember that our Shaykh (Muqbil) رحمه الله used to regard it as weak, and the matter is broad. He may make tasbeeh with the right hand or the left. And if he suffices with the right then there’s no problem with this. And whichever one he chooses to do, then the matter is broad. Because you may see for instance (that in certain matters we use both hands) like raising the two hands. The takbeer is made with both hands, not with one. Likewise in other matters, where the the left hand shares in with the right hand. So the matter (making tasbeeh with the left) is flexible.
