Spend and Allāh will spend on you – Tafsīr Suratul-Baqarah by Ibn Kathīr
Benefit:
Concerning His statement;
هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى ظُلَلٍ مِّنَ ٱلْغَمَامِ وَٱلْمَلَٰئِكَةُ وَقُضِىَ ٱلْأَمْرُۚ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ ٱلْأُمُورُ سَلْ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰءِيلَ كَمْ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍۭ بَيِّنَةٍۗ وَمَن يُبَدِّلْ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ زُيِّنَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَيَسْخَرُونَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواۘ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَرْزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
“Do they then wait for anything other than that Allah should come to them in the shadows of the clouds and the angels? (Then) the case would be already judged. And to Allah return all matters (for decision). Ask the Children of Israel how many clear Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) We gave them. And whoever changes Allah’s Favour after it had come to him, [e.g. renounces the Religion of Allah (Islam) and accepts Kufr (disbelief),] then surely, Allah is Severe in punishment. Beautified is the life of this world for those who disbelieve, and they mock at those who believe. But those who obey Allah’s Orders and keep away from what He has forbidden, will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. And Allah gives (of His Bounty, Blessings, Favours, Honours, etc. on the Day of Resurrection) to whom He wills without limit.” [Al-Baqarah, 210-212]
(هَلْ يَنظُرُون)
‘Do they then wait’……the verse
Meaning that Allāh has threatened the disbelievers by way of Muhammad ﷺ, and he’s saying: What are they waiting for destruction to come to them?
(إِلَّآ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ)
‘Other than that Allah should come to them’…
The attribute of coming (is affirmed) for Allāh, And what is correct is that the attribute of Ityān (Coming) and Majee’un (Coming) is considered one attribute, but it is obligatory to affirm them both as has come in the evidence.
Conclusion: Are they waiting for Allāh to descend, and their affair will be such of those destroyed.
His statement;

▪️ How many irrevocable proofs did they witness with Musā ﷺ, like his hand, his stick, and his splitting of the sea, and what came of (various) miracles, clear proofs
▪️ And whoever exchanges the favour of Allāh: They changed Allāh’s favour with Kufr i.e they exchanged Īmān in them (clear proofs) with Kufr in them and turning away from them
▪️ And like this is exchanging the Sunnah for Al-Bid’ah
(ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمْ يَكُ مُغَيِّرًا نِّعْمَةً أَنْعَمَهَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْۙ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيم)ٌ
“That is so because Allah will never change a grace which He has bestowed on a people until they change what is in their ownselves. And verily, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.” [Al-Anfāl, 53]
And Allāh provides… i.e. many gifts without restriction and counting in the Dunyā and the Ākhirah, as comes in the Hadith;
أنفق ينفق الله عليك
“Spend and Allāh will spend on you.”
And the Prophet ﷺ said:
أنفق بلال ولا تخش من ذي العرش إقلالا
“Spend O Bilāl and do not fear from the Owner of the Throne any shortage.”
Benefits:
▪️ From the means of gaining provisions and having ampleness in provisions is spending.
▪️ And from the means of becoming in lack of provisions is withholding.
▪️ Don’t count so that Allāh will count upon you and don’t refrain from giving so that Allāh will refrain from giving you.
مابقي من الشاة قالوا : ذهبت كلها ولم يبق إلا كتفها، قال صلى الله عليه وسلم : بقيت كلها إلا كتفها
He said: “Is there anything left (from the sheep that you distributed in charity)?” She replied, “Nothing is left, except the shoulder.” Thereupon he ﷺ said, (rather) “All of it is left except its shoulder.”
▪️ Az-Zakāt is increase, with these proofs, and whoever gives Zakāh or voluntary charity increases (in wealth).
▪️ And stinginess is only from Shaytān.
