The ruling on praying upon someone who used to pray sometimes and leave it sometimes?

Question:

The ruling on praying upon someone who used to pray sometimes and leave it sometimes?

Answer:

If he died in the time which he was praying then this points towards a good ending and that he died being amongst those who pray, therefore he is prayed over. And if he died in the time he left the prayer off, then the one who leaves off the prayer is not prayed upon

He is not prayed upon because he is a disbeliever upon the correct opinion.

العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة فمن تركها فقد كفر

“The covenant between us and them is the Salāh so whoever leaves it has indeed disbelieved.”

بين الرجل وبين الشرك والكفر ترك الصلاة

“Between a man and shirk and kufr is leaving off the Salāh.
