What is the name of the Prophet after Mūsā?

Question:

What is the name of the Prophet that was in the time of Tālūt (Saul) other than Dāwūd?

Answer:

Allāh said:

“Have you not thought about the group of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Mūsā (Moses)? When they said to a Prophet of theirs, “Appoint for us a king and we will fight in Allah’s Way.” [Al-Baqarah, 246]

This is how Allāh informed, that there was a Prophet from the children of Isrā’ēl after Mūsā, and He didn’t mention his name nor is there in the sunnah what establishes his name. Thus there’s nothing which necessitates searching for his name when Allāh has made it obscure.

The conclusion is that he is a Prophet from the children of Isrā’ēl after Mūsā, some of them say he is Yūsha’ (Joshua). This statement is criticised because Yūsha’ was during the time of Mūsā and Allāh said after Mūsā. Likewise it is said Sham’ūn (Simeon) and the likes of this but there is nothing that establishes any of these statements.

Therefore it is said: “Allāh knows best what his name is”. We believe that he is a Prophet from the children of Isrā’ēl after Mūsā as comes in the Qurān.
