Does the person have to pray two rakahs after taking his shahaadah?

Question:

Does the person have to pray two rakahs after taking his shahaadah?

Answer:

It is not a condition of the person’s shahaadah to pray two rakahs, but what is obligatory upon the person is to learn the Tawheed of Allah and the Salaah. And learn about the sincerity to Allah in this religion. How can one pray two rakahs and he is new to Islam? He hasn’t learned about the Salaah, wudu (the purification), it’s pillars or it’s obligations. As it comes in the hadith of Tariq bin Ashyam (May Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih Muslim, about a man that entered Islam, the first thing the Prophet ﷺ taught him was the salaah.
