Is it legislated to fast the 10th if he missed the 9th?
Answered by our Shaykh, the ‘Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abu ‘Abdirrahmān Yahya bin ‘Ali Al-Hajūri – may Allāh preserve him – on the 9th, Muharram, 1442H
Question:
Whoever misses out on fasting the 9th, is it legislated for him to fast the 10th?
Answer:
Yes, it’s legislated even if it’s alone, and if it coinsides with a day of Sabt (Saturday).
Nobody should feel at odds with fasting Yawm us-Sabt (Saturdays) alone, for indeed the hadith which has in it the prohibition of fasting on Sabt except in that which Allāh has made obligatory upon you is a defectious hadith, the huffāth declared it Munkar.
