An ignorant custom taken to verify a brides virginity

What’s the ruling regarding this custom:

If a man marries a woman, before he enters upon her, he keeps with him a piece of white cloth or tissue, in order to wipe the blood that results from breaking the girls virginity.

Then the family of the bride take it and go about ululating and celebrating while the people witness it.

And if there’s no blood, the bride gets divorced.

This is a custom of (pre-islamic) ignorance.
