Question:
What is the wisdom behind the repetition in verses in the Qurān?
Answer:
In the repetition of verses is miracle from the angle that the Qurān is a miracle and from the angle that they are verses had it not been for that resembles it would have been easy to remember and it wouldn’t have been much of a miracle, so when the structure of verses came with this verse resembling that verse in some of it’s wordings and the rest of it’s wording are different, this became from its miracles.
For example Allāh’s statement:
“And they swear by Allāh with the most energetic of their oaths: Allah will not raise up him who dies.” [An-Nahl, 38]
And the other:
“And they swear by Allah with the most energetic of their oaths that if you command them they would certainly go forth.” [An-Nūr, 53]
You could make a mistake with this one and that one if you are not able to distinguish between them, this is from the resemblance in them, in some of the verses.
“And they swear by Allāh with the strongest of their oaths, that if a sign came to them they would most certainly believe in it.” [Al-An’ām, 109]
“And they swore by Allāh with the strongest of their oaths that if there came to them a warner they would be better guided than any of the nations” [Fātir, 42]
If a person does not pay attention to the likes of these resembling verses he will jump from one Sūrah to another, this is from what they mentioned that had it not been for these verses resembling each other memorizing it would have been easy due to the rhyming but this is not correct, because the resembling verses point towards the miracle of the Qurān, and from it’s benefits is that they explain each other, for verily a verse could be explained by another verse, so it would be resembling it in the meaning it is pointing towards, so there are benefits in them and there has been authoring (about this) in that regard.
