Is it permissible for a daa’ee (one calling to islam) who is seeking knowledge to insult the Scholars ?
Answered by our Shaykh, the ‘Allaamah, the Sincere Adviser, Abu ‘Abdirrahman Yahya bin ‘Ali Al-Hajoori – may Allaah preserve him –
Question:
Is it permissible for a daa’ee (one calling to Islam) who is seeking knowledge to insult so and so from the shuyookh with the little bit of knowledge he has, to the point he has even said regarding shaykh bin baaz -may Allah have mercy upon him – “his fataawa should be thrown in his face”?!?!
Answer:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
«سباب المسلم فسوق وقتاله كفر»
Cursing the Muslim is a evil doing and killing him is kufr
[Hadeeth of ibn mas’ood Reported by Al-bukhaari and muslim]
And he ﷺ also said:
“ليس المؤمن باللعان ولا الطعان ولا الفاحش ولا البذي”
“A true believer is not involved in taunting, or frequently cursing (others) or in indecency or abusing.”
[Hadeeth of Ibn Mas’ood Reported by At-Tirmithi]
And our Lord ﷻ says:
{وَقُلْ لِعِبَادِي يَقُولُوا الَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ}
“And say to My slaves (i.e. the true believers of Islamic Monotheism) that they should (only) say those words that are the best.”
[Al-israa 53]
And He ﷻ says:
“وَقُولُوا لِلنَّاسِ حُسْنًا”
“And say to the people that which is best.”
[Al-Baqarah:83]
And the Prophet ﷺ said:
«إن العبد ليتكلم بالكلمة يهوي بها في النار»
“Verily the slave can say something (not caring about its repercussions) and is thrown into the hell fire because of it.”
[Narrated by Al-Bukhari and muslim]
So speaking against the Muslims generally, is an affair which is restricted and it is not legislated except with limits and legislative criterion’s which return back to the interest of Islam and the Muslims, like the disparagement of the one who is deserving of disparagement, and it should only come from the people of knowledge and piety, those who are known for that.
And letting the tongues loose on the scholars of the Muslims is more serious of a crime and sin, because this deprives the people from their khair and from their knowledge, and it is waajib to glorify the scholars in a form which legislated.
They (the people) don’t take from Ahlus sunnah, these people take from whatever coincides with their desires, not from Shaykh Ibn Baaz nor from Shaykh Muqbil nor from Shaykh Al-Albaani, may Allah have mercy upon them all.
The insult of this man will not harm Imaam Ibn Baaz, for verily he is the Imaam of the dunya of this time, no one will insult him except one who is crazy, so if he sees a false statement of his (Ibn Baaz) or from other than him from the imaams then let him refrain from it whilst still having love and respect for them, may Allaah have mercy upon them all.
