Women praying the funeral prayer in congregation led by a woman
Question #303:
What is the ruling on women praying Janāzah in Jamāʿah led by a woman?
Answer :
The Shaykh Abū Bilāl responded by saying that
“There is no problem with the women praying janāzah with one from among them leading the prayer.” He sighted the Ḥadīth of ʿĀʾishah (may Allāh be pleased with her), when she sought for the body of Saʿad ibn Abī Waqqās to be brought to the masjid so that she could pray over it. The Ḥadīth is in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Book of Janāʾiz, Chapter about the permissibility of praying on janāzah in the masjid (Book No. 12, Chapter No. 34, Ḥadīth No: 2296).
We have also asked the Shaykh Abū Musʿab Anīs al-Ḥaḍramī. He also responded by saying that there is no problem with that same situation and he sighted as proof the fact that the wives of the Messenger (May Allāh mention him in the highest gathering and grant him safety) prayed over him (Ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam) before his burial.
And all praise is for Allāh, the Creator and Sustainer of all that exists.
