Six Golden Advices for Strengthening One’s Memory

Question:

I am weak in memorizing and want to memorize the Qurʾān. What do you advise me?

Answer:

1. I advise you with al-istiʿānah (seeking the aid, blessing, and guidance) of Allāh عز وجل. Ask Allāh عز وجل!

2. And abandoning sins… abandon your sins! And Allāh عز وجل will give you a good memory.

3. Furthermore, a good recitation as well. Read a page thoroughly.

4. Also, murājaʿah (revision, going over what you have memorized), for verily it will strengthen your memorization.

5. Appoint for yourself a student you can recite with; be companions together in reciting.

6. Pray with that which you have memorized and stand reciting in the night. That will strengthen your memorization, by the permission of Allāh عز وجل.
