What has come concerning (لو) – (If/Would that)

Benefit:

From the commentary on the Book of Tawheed by Shaykhul-Islaam Muhammad bin Abdil-Wahhaab may Allaah have mercy on him,125-126th Lesson.

Chapter: What has come concerning (لو) – Low (If/Would that)

And statement of Allaah:

(يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ شَىْءٌ مَّا قُتِلْنَا هَٰهُنَاۗ)

“If we had anything to do with the affair, none of us would have been killed here.” [Aal-‘Imraan: 154]

And His statement:

(ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ وَقَعَدُوا۟ لَوْ أَطَاعُونَا مَا قُتِلُوا۟ )

“(They are) the ones who said about their killed brethren while they themselves sat (at home): “If only they had listened to us, they would not have been killed.” [Aal-‘Imraan: 168]

And in the Saheeh from Abi Hurairah may Allaah be pleased with him that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: “Be concerned/focus on that which benefits you, and seek assistance with Allaah and don’t lack, and if anything befalls you, then don’t say: “If only I had done such and such, such and such would of happened, but rather say: “What Allaah decreed happened, and He does what he wills. For indeed (Low) – If/Would that opens up the doings of Shaytaan.”

In it are Masaa’il (topics):

The First: The Tafseer of the two verses of Aal-‘Imraan.

The Second: The clear-cut prohibition from the statement: “لو”- (Low)/If/Would that, if something befalls you.

The Third: The reasoning for this matter that it opens the doings of Shaytaan.

The Fourth: Guiding towards good speech.

The Fifth: The command to be concerned/focus on that which benefits, along with seeking assistance with/in Allaah.

The Sixth: The prohibition of the opposite to this, and it is becoming weak/inactive.
