Shirk in Obedience and Shirk in Worship
Benefit:
From the commentary on the Book of Tawheed by Shaykhul-Islaam Muhammad bin Abdil-Wahhaab may Allah have mercy on him,118th, Lesson.
Chapter: Allaah’s statement:
“But when He gave them a Salih (good in every aspect) child, they ascribed partners to Him (Allah) in that which He has given to them. High be Allah, Exalted above all that they ascribe as partners to Him.” [Al-A’raaf: 190]
Ibn Hazm said: “They agreed upon the impermissibility of every name which is enslaved to other than Allaah, like the ‘Abd ‘Amr (slave of ‘Amr), or ‘Abdul-Ka’bah (the slave of the Ka’bah), and what is similar to this, except Abdul-Muttalib.”
And from Ibn ‘Abbaas in the verse: He said: “When Aadam came to her she became pregnant, so Iblees came to them both and said: “I am the one that got you both expelled from Jannah, you will both obey me or I will make him have two deer horns, so he will come out from your belly and pierce it, and I will do such and such and such and such, frightening them both, name him ‘Abdul-Haarith (the slave of the one who tills the land), so they both refused to obey him, so it came out dead. Then she became pregnant again, so he came to them both and said the likes of what he said (before), so they refused to obey him, so it came out dead. Then she became pregnant, so he came to them both and reminded them both, so they were overcome by the love of (wanting to have) a child, so they both named him the Abdul-Haarith, so that is His statement:
(فَلَمَّآ آتَىٰهُمَا صَٰلِحًا جَعَلَا لَهُ ۥ شُرَكَآءَ فِيمَآ آتَىٰهُمَا)
“But when He gave them a Salih (good in every aspect) child, they ascribed partners to Him (Allah) in that which He has given to them.” [Al-A’raaf: 190] [Reported by Ibn Abi Haatim]
And it has an authentic chain from Qataadah, he said: “Partners in His obedience and it wasn’t in worship.”
And it has an authentic narration from Mujaahid in His statement:
(لَئِنْ آتَيْتَنَا صَٰلِحًا)
“If You give us a Salih (good in every aspect).” [Al-A’raaf: 189]
He said: “They were worried that he won’t be human” and it’s meaning was mentioned from Al-Hasan and Sa’eed and other than them.
In it are Masaa’il (topics):
The First: The prohibition of every name which is enslaved to other than Allaah.
The Second: Tafseer of the verse.
The Third: That this Shirk in mere naming was not intended in its essence.
The Fourth: That the gift of Allaah to a man of a intact daughter is from the blessings.
The Fifth: The mentioning of the Salaf of Shirk in obedience and Shirk in acts of worship.
