Close Friends are Enemies except the Righteous

Benefit:

Our Shaykh Yahyaa Al-Hajooree may Allaah preserve him said:

“The people of desires dazzle those they venture upon, either with the Dunyaa or with desires or doubts, so if they budge him from the truth or he becomes weak for standing for the truth they leave him alone, and if they don’t leave him in the Dunyaa and keep him amongst them upon what they are upon of falsehood, they will free themselves from him on the Day of Judgment, Allaah said:

(إِذْ تَبَرَّأَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتُّبِعُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ وَرَأَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ وَتَقَطَّعَتْ بِهِمُ ٱلْأَسْبَابُ)

“When those who have been followed disassociate themselves from those who followed [them], and they [all] see the punishment, and cut off from them are the ties [of relationship]” [Al-Baqarah: 166]

And he said:

ٱلْأَخِلَّآءُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ,
وَيَوْمَ يَعَضُّ ٱلظَّالِمُ عَلَىٰ يَدَيْهِ يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى ٱتَّخَذْتُ مَعَ ٱلرَّسُولِ سَبِيلًا, يَٰوَيْلَتَىٰ لَيْتَنِى لَمْ أَتَّخِذْ فُلَانًا خَلِيلًا, لَّقَدْ أَضَلَّنِى عَن ٱلذِّكْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ جَآءَنِىۗ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ خَذُولًا

“Close friends, that Day, will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous. And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, “Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way. Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that so and so as a friend. He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter.” [Az-Zukhruf: 67]
