Chapter: From Shirk is: Swearing an oath for other than Allaah

And His statement:

“They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading.” [Al-Insan: 7]

And His statement:

“And whatever you spend for spending’s or whatever vow you make, be sure Allaah knows it all. And for the Dhaalimeen (wrong-doers, etc.) there are no helpers.” [Al-Baqarah: 270]

And in the two Sahihs from Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her: That the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: “Whoever swears an oath to obey Allaah then let him obey Him, and whoever swears an oath to disobey Allaah then let him not disobey Him.”

In it are Masaa’il (topics):

The First: The obligation of fulfilling oaths.

The Second: If it is established as being an act of worship for Allaah, then directing it to other than Him is Shirk.

The Third: That the oath of disobedience is not allowed to be fulfilled.
