The ruling on taking school fees for working in an Islamic Madrasah
Question:
What is the ruling on taking a wage for teaching in Qur’anic schools or religious institutes to fulfil ones needs?
Answer:
Whoever was given without stipulation from a known authority, on the authority of the government or state then it is still taken (up until today), as for him to stipulate himself that he won’t do this job or lead the people in prayer or make the Athaan or give Khutbah or teach except that they give him such and such then this is wrong,
“And who is better in speech than he who [says: “My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness),” and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah’s (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: “I am one of the Muslims.” [Fussilat: 33]
(قُلْ إِنَّ صَلَاتِى وَنُسُكِى وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِى لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِين)َ
Say: “Verily, my Salaat (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allaah, the Lord of the ‘Aalamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). [Al-An’am:162]
So yes, this act of worship is to be for Allah, so if a person stands for something of that so they give him seeking reward, the state gives, he takes, and seeks assistance with that, for the judges are still (today) taking for their work, and their work is in the benefits of the Muslims and likewise the rulers also and likewise whoever has work which is in the service of the people and they are given from a specific authority, on the authority of the state, without them reminding of their good, he takes, as for stipulating then no, that he doesn’t do a righteous action except that he’s given then this is not befitting, the people of knowledge disliked it.
