A traveler praying ‘Ishā behind a traveler praying Maghrib

Question:

If a traveler prays ‘Ishā behind a resident praying Maghrib, does he complete or shorten may Allāh preserve you?

Answer:

If a traveler prays behind a resident he completes. Whether he is praying ‘Ishā behind him or Maghrib or other than it from the Salāh. Because it is following the Imām,

إنَّما جُعِلَ الإمامُ ليؤتمَّ به

“Verily the Imām has been set to be followed.”

So don’t differ from him, so as long as he is a resident and his affair in that is completing, then verily the affair of the one following is completion. So if he prays three rak’ah the one following stands and completes four following the Imām. Because from his affair is completing.

Question:

Our Shaykh may Allāh preserve you, if the one praying Maghrib is a traveler also and a person came and wants to pray ‘Ishā, does the ruling change?

The traveler prays in congregation three rak’ah and another traveler came who has prayed Maghrib and he wants to pray ‘Ishā two rak’ahs. So he entered with them.

Answer:

If he performed two rak’ah with them and sufficed with that due to being a traveler it is sufficient. Him being a traveler and his obligation is shortening and his Imām is a traveler. So if he performs two rak’ah with them it suffices. And if he performed the first and they stand after two and he sits and waits until they give salām and salāms with them. Or if he makes intention to exit then gives salām. The affairs is that both of them are allowed.
