Congregational prayer and Food

Question :

Which do I give precedence to : eating the food or praying in congregation?

Answer :

This depends on the scenario. So if the food is ready and it has been placed and you are in need of that food, then take from that food that you need, then go and offer the Salaah. Due to that which has come from our Messenger of Allah salallahu alayhi wa sallam in Muslim, “That there is no salaah at the time that the food is placed.” Also, in Sahihayn, “If the food is placed and the iqaamah has been called, then start with the food.”

As for the scenario where the food is not ready.  Or it is ready, however it’s too hot to eat it now except after some time. Then he goes and offer the Salaah and he gives precedence to offering the Salaah.
