The Difference between the words Hizbi and Mubtadi’
Question:
May Allah be good to you.
What is the difference between Innovator and Hizbi?
And does the word Innovator apply to the Hizbi?
Answer:
Innovator is said: due to his innovating, meaning he introduced in the religion that which is not from it.
And Hizbi is said: due to his Hizbiyyah (bigoted partisanship), meaning his establishment of restricted allegiance and disallegiance in opposition to what the legislation necessitates.
Every Hizbi is an innovator introducing in the religion what is not from it, opposing the legislative texts which command the taking of allegiance to the truth and it’s people and disallegiance to falsehood and it’s people each accordingly, which is a foundation from amongst the foundations of Ahlussunnah.
Allah, the Most High, said:
“Verily, your Wali (Protector or Helper) is Allah, His Messenger, and the believers, – those who perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat, and they bow down (submit themselves with obedience to Allah in prayer).
And whosoever takes Allah, His Messenger, and those who have believed, as Protectors, then the party of Allah will be the victorious.” [Al-Maaidah:55-56]
And in the ‘two Sahihs’ on the authority of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
(ثَلاثٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ وَجَدَ بِهِنَّ حَلاوَةَ الإيمَانِ)
“Three things if they were to be found within a person, they would taste the sweetness of Emān due to it.”
And he mentioned as the second:
(وَأَنْ يُحِبَّ الْمَرْءَ لا يُحِبُّهُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ)
“To love someone not but for the sake of Allah.”
And every innovator has his share of restricted allegiance and disallegiance to his ideology, or the one he is following, or his group; thus allegiancing with those that allegience with it and freeing himself from those that oppose it, irregardless if it was rightfully or not.
Shaykh-Ul-Islām, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:
“Even if they added to this or took from it, like fanaticism for example to those that joined their party rightfully or not, and turning away from those that haven’t joined their party regardless if they were upon the truth or were wrong for this.
This is blameworthy splitting which Allah and His Messenger casted blame upon, for verily Allah and His Messenger commanded having unity and being at harmony and forbade splitting and differing, and commanded aiding upon good and piety and forbade aiding upon sin and transgression.” [Majmū’l Fatāwa]
