Combining between different adhkār in rukū’u and sujūd
Answered by our Shaykh, the ‘Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abu ‘Abdirrahmān Yahya bin ‘Ali Al-Hajūri – may Allāh preserve him – on the 25th, Dhūl-Hijjah, 1441H
Question:
Are the different forms of adhkār for sujūd to be combined whilst in sujūd and likewise for rukū’u?
Answer:
This has come from the Prophet ﷺ , that he ordered with increasing in du’ā
“فاجتهدوا في الدعاء“
“Strive in du’ā.”
and the hadith points towards that;
“فأما الركوع فعظموا فيه الرب وأما السجود فاجتهدوا في الدعاء فقمن أن يستجاب لكم“
“As for in rukū’u then exalt the Lord in it and as for sujūd then strive in du’ā for it is more likely for it to be responded to.”
And that the Prophet ﷺ encouraged in increasing in du’ā, he said;
“اقرب ما يكون العبد من ربه وهو ساجد فأكثروا الدعاء“
“The closest a servant is to his Lord is whilst he is prostrating so increase in du’ā.”
And his statement ‘increase’ points to that he supplicates a lot, so he supplicates with multiple duas and from the duas of the Prophet ﷺ that he used to say whilst prostrating;
اللهم اني أعوذ برضاك من سخطك و بمعافاتك من عقوبتك وبك منك لا احصي ثناء عليك انت كما اثنيت على نفسك
“O Allāh, I seek refuge in your pleasure from your anger and in your safety from your punishment, I in you from you, I cannot praise you enough, you are as you praised yourself.”
This hadith has combined in it numerous du’ās, in it he supplicated and sought refuge from the anger of Allāh, in it is numerous du’ās.
Likewise also mention Allāh with tasbīh and his statement;
“وأما في السجود فاجتهدوا في الدعاء“
“As for in sujūd then strive in du’ā.”
it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t do tasbīh for verily in sujūd he says;
“سبحان ربي الأعلى“
Glorified be the Lord, The Most-High
And he combines with tasbīh, different types of tasbīh and he used to do this in his rukū’u and sujūd as came on the authority of Ā’ishah;
“سبحان الملك القدوس“
“Glorified be the Holy King”
And an number of du’ās which are established and adhkār, if a person were to combine then the proofs have come with it so there is no problem with that, and if he sufficed with one dhikr or a dhikr with a du’ā or something like this then this is the intent, and every time he increases and does more, then Allāh is more.
