Dates Prepared for Breaking Fast in Ramadan, How to Handle what Remains after Ramadan?
Answered by our Shaykh, the ‘Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abu ‘Abdirrahman Yahya bin ‘Ali Al-Hajūri – may Allāh preserve him – on the 23rd Jumāda Al-Oulā, 1422H
Question:
Some traders come with dates during Ramadhān for the fasting people, so the month of Ramadhān ends and some dates remain, so is it allowed for the one who was not fasting to eat from them or is it given to the students of knowledge, baring in mind that if they remain (too long) they will spoil?
Answer:
The Prophet ﷺ said : لا يحل مال امرئ مسلم الا بطيبة من نفسه
“The wealth of a Muslim is not permissible (to be taken) except with his content.”
[Reported by Ibn Hibbān and Ahmed on the authority of Abī Hamīd and it has come on the authority of Abī Murrah Ar-Riqāshī and it is with Ahmed]
And this one gave them with his content, then so long as he gave then with his content, whether they are fasting or not fasting, and is it a condition that they break their fast with them for as long as they are fasting and that the non fasting one does not eat from it? If this restriction occurs then it is a must to implement, and if it does not occur; then they can eat from it during Ramadhān and what remains of it in other than Ramadhān, whether they are fasting or not due to the hadith which’ mentioning has preceded.
