Memorising Both Qurʾān and Ḥadīth at the Same Time

Question:

Would you advise a student of knowledge to memorise the Qurʾān while memorising aḥādīth or does he start with the Qurʾān first?

Answer:

There is no problem, if he desires that, and is able; however that which is better for him, is to start with the Qurʾān. Despite this, if he wants to combine, no problem.

It might be the case that he will be busied from knowledge soon or (for whatever other reason) he has a short time for obtaining knowledge, then he will return to his country. His situation might change or he may be faced with sickness, in these situations, combining between memorising Qurʾān and aḥādīth, no problem.

He uses his time of health (and ability) to memorise Qurʾān and aḥādīth and he starts with the smaller knowledge before bigger knowledge. Memorising mutūn (summarised text of knowledge), so he memorises the Forty aḥādīth of an-Nawawī and ʿUmdah al-Aḥkām.

Like this if he finishes memorising them, and perfects their memorisation, he moves onto memorising the Ṣaḥīḥ of al-Bukhārī and the Ṣaḥīḥ of Muslim! (And in this) He will find much benefit.
