A sister did not make up her fasts due on her from previous Ramaḍān till next Ramaḍān. If she makes up after this Ramaḍān does she have to feed the poor along with making up the fasts?
The scholars have differed on this issue.
Shaykh Ibn Ḥizām has mentioned this issue in his book, Fatḥ al-ʿAllām (2/700). The summary of what he mentioned is:
The majority of scholars are on the view that she has to make up her fasts and she has to feed a poor person for everyday that she delayed the fast. But this is not a correct opinion because of lack of proof for this feeding.
The correct opinion is that there is no feeding of poor person upon her. As Allāh, The Most High, has said:
فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
Allāh has mentioned only making up of the missed fasts in other days and did not command with feeding of poor person for the one who delays his making up of fasts until after the next Ramaḍān. This the opinion of Al-Ḥasan, An-Nakhaʾī, People of Raʾī, Al-Bukhārī. And this is also opinion of Ibn Ḥazm, Ash-Shawkānī, Al-Wādiʿī, Ibn al-ʿUthaymīn.
Allāh knows best.
