?The Ruling on Selling or Exchanging one Phone for two…?
The honorable scholar Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen –may Allaah have mercy on him- mentioned the following in response to a question raised to him:
…And (Riba) usury is in certain categories of commodities and it is not in all commodities. The Messenger of Allaah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) clarified them in saying:
{{Gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates, salt for salt, like for like, same for same, hand to hand. But if these commodities differ, then sell as you like, as long as it is hand to hand. }}
(Reported by Muslim from Ubaadah bin Saamit may Allaah be please with him).
Therefore, in gold and silver and the likes of this (i.e. monetary funds) is what usury is in. And likewise the remaining four types (in the previous hadeeth) which are consumed and measured by volume, this is what usury is in. This and whatever resembles it in its type.
As for anything other than that, then there is no usury in this. And due to this, it is allowed for a person to exchange one vehicle for two vehicles or one vehicle for a vehicle and gold coins (or money), or a camel for two camels, or a sheep for two sheep, or the likes from that which does not contain usury…

We benefit from this speech of Shaykh Uthaymeen –may Allaah have mercy on him-, the permissibility of selling or exchanging one commodity for two or more, if it does Not enter the categories of (Riba) usury. We also take from this, that appliances and electronics the likes of moblie phones also do not enter this ruling seeing as they are not from the categories in which (Riba) usury enters.
Benefit:
The noble Shaykh Yahya bin Ali al-Hajooree –may Allaah preserve him- advised the students of knowledge and others not to involve themselves in the sales of mobile phones containing cameras fearing the harm in this, and that they instead sell the phones which do not contain cameras.
