Muslims helping disbelievers against Salafees

Question 455

Shaykh حفظه الله
In India there are some people who claim to be muslims but not having symbols of deen who help Kafirs for their personal gain or as part of their party benefits against Salafi brothers who are a minority here by imposing false allegations, such as terrorism.

Is this act come under ‘Nullifiers of Islam’ and can we consider this as an act of kufr as they are helping a kafir against muslims?

Answer:

The summary of what the Shaykh said is that there is no doubt that this is a disgraceful act and it fits into the evidences in which there is prohibition from such an act which is helping the people of desires.

Allah says,

— Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Auliya (supporters, helpers, etc.) instead of the believers

(Surah Al Imran 28)

— O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya’ (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Auliya’ to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya’, then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers and unjust).

And you see those in whose hearts there is a disease (of hypocrisy), they hurry to their friendship, saying: “We fear lest some misfortune of a disaster may befall us.” Perhaps Allah may bring a victory or a decision according to His Will. Then they will become regretful for what they have been keeping as a secret in themselves.

(Surah Al Maidah 51-52)

— You will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred (people)

(Surah Al Mujadila 22)

All of these evidences prove that this kind of aid is prohibited and it may take a person into disbelief in Allah as Allah said, “And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya” if his friendship becomes complete and convincing and he does that giving victory to their religion and detesting the people of Islam and he wants the victory of disbelievers over the muslims, then he has disbelieved in Allah as the saying of Allah, “then surely he is one of them”. This is when his friendship is complete and and he likes that what the disbelievers are upon from disbelief.

But, if he gives them worldly aid and intends seeking dignity or stature with the disbelievers then this is a very dangerous affair and is not suitable for a muslim. The person is upon a heinous crime and it is feared for him. In such a case, he does not aid the disbelievers because of love of their religion or giving victory to their religion (as in the prior case) then this a great sin from the major sins and if he dies in this state then it is feared for him. As for as making takfeer in the condition which has been mentioned, then one should be careful.

Tawalli(supporting) is of two types:

  1. Which is kufr. That if a person support the disbelievers due to his love their religion and his love for their victory on the muslims then this is kufr akbar.
  2. Which is a major sin. That if a person support the disbelievers while he hate their religion and he supports only because of his worldly desires.
