Question :
Is it permissible to lie for fun ?
Answer :
الكذب لا يجوز مازحاً ولا جاداً لأنه من الأخلاق الذميمة التي لا يتصف بها إلا أهل النفاق ومن المؤسف أننا نسمع كثيراً من بعض الناس أنهم يقسمون الكذب إلى قسمين كذبٍ أبيض وكذبٍ أسود فإذا ترتب على الكذب ضررٌ بأكل مالٍ أو اعتداءٍ أو ما أشبه ذلك فهو عندهم كذبٌ أسود وإذا لم يتضمن ذلك فهو عندهم كذبٌ أبيض وهذا تقسيمٌ باطل فالكذب كله أسود ولكن يزداد سواداً كلما ترتب عليه ضرر أعظم.
وبهذه المناسبة أحذر إخواني المسلمين مما يصنعه بعض السفهاء من كذبة إبريل هذه الكذبة التي تلقوها عن اليهود والنصارى والمجوس وأصحاب الكفر فهي مع كونها كذبٌ والكذب محرم شرعاً ففيها تشبه بغير المسلمين والتشبه بغير المسلمين محرم وقد قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم (من تشبه بقومٍ فهو منهم) قال شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية رحمه الله إسناده جيد وأقل أحواله التحريم وإن كان ظاهره يقتضي كفر المتشبه بهم وهي مع تضمنها لهذين المحظورين فيها إذلالٌ للمسلم أمام عدوه لأن من المعلوم بطبيعة البشر أن المقلد يفخر على من قلده ويرى أنه أقدر منه ولذلك ضعف مقلده حتى قلده فهي فيها إذلالٌ للمؤمن بكونه ذليلاً وتبعاً للكفار.

Al Allamah As Shaykh Al Uthaymeen said,
Lying is not permitted jokingly or seriously as it is from immoral character which cannot be observed except in a hypocrite. And sadly we hear from many people that they divide the lie as white lie and black lie. If harm like stealing of wealth or oppression or something like that happens due to the lie then they say it as black lie. If that doesn’t happen then they say it is white lie. This division is falsehood as every lie is black, but it increases in blackness if the harm of it increases.
And at this occasion I warn my muslim brothers from what some foolish people do from Lie of April (April Fool). They received this from the Jews and the Christians and the Majoos and from people of disbelief. And in addition to it being a lie which is prohibited in Shariah it is also imitating Non-Muslims. And imitating the Non-Muslims is prohibited as the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, ‘Whoever imitates a nation they are from them’. Shaykh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (Rahimahullah) said it’s chain is sound. The minimal ruling of it (imitating the disbelievers) is prohibition even the apparent meaning of the hadeeth indicates the kufr of the imitator. In addition to these two dangers, in this there is humiliation for Muslim in front of his enemy (disbeliever), as it is well-known from the nature of human that the followed one (imitated one) feels pride on who follows him and he feels that he is more superior than him and it displays the weakness of the follower that he follow him. So in this there is humiliation for believer being a lower-one and follower of the disbelievers.
