Is Ignorance a valid excuse for a person who mocks the religion?

Question #320:

A brother translated a section of Shaykh Fawzan’s explanation of the nullifiers of islam “Lessons in the explanation of Nawāqid al-Islām“, the section of mocking the dīn. In that the shaykh mentioned that for mocking the deen in ignorance is not an excuse, meaning whether a person knows mocking is kufr or not, he committed kufr and left Islam. The shaykh has proof for this.

I was taught that ignorance is a valid excuse, and that proof has to be explained to the person. Now I am confused could you please clarify.
